About the client

Tucked away on the first floor of iconic south London local, the Landor Pub, you'll find a stylish, versatile venue-for-hire for events, exhibitions and professional uses. Landor Space is a modern, flexible function area perfect for independent businesses and organisations in need of a bit of extra space - day or night.  The Theatre Space is a blank canvas to be transformed into an intimate music venue, a comedy cabaret, an audition hall or a private party. It's an elegant and airy place which can be used for a wide range of purposes and events.

The decision making process

Chart Area Seating were delighted to be involved with the team at the Landor from an early stage and worked closely with the owner's to assist the decision making process. We visited the theatre with sample chairs to allow the team to fully assess the options for comfort and usability and see them in the space where they would ultimately be used.

Key factors

The Landor Space is an amazing achievement: the elegant refurbishment of a crucial platform for creativity in London.

Budget constraints were in place by the time the team reached the FF&E selection stage as the extensive refurbishment done to such a high standard had created pressure on the available funds.

In spite of this certain criteria were crucial for the chairs:

The space is subject to frequent reconfiguration so a lightweight chair was required

Due to the quantity of chairs involved they would need to link and the linking process needed to be simple and straightforward

The chairs would be used by a wide range of visitors including ticket holders enjoying creative and dramatic works and therefore comfort was essential

Due to space constraints the chairs would need to stack

OK, so what's the downside...?

The CAS_CAS_CARV chair doesn't stack quite as high as the CAS_CAS_CURV so if storage space is limited the CAS_CAS_CURV might give you the space efficient storage you need

Also, the joint welds are not quite as elegant as on the CAS_CAS_CURV - this is a small detail that you might not even notice but we always want to tell you what to look out for!

OK, so what's the downside...?

Stacking ability is reduced significantly if the chair is specified with upholstered seat and back pads, dropping to 15 high on a transport dolly

Some clients have fed back that they felt the chair really benefited from the upholstered pad so if you anticipate the chair being used for extended periods maybe consider this option to ensure the comfort level is as high as you need

OK, so what's the downside...?

The linking method only allows setting-out in one direction so you can only create and seperate a row from one side - not a biggy but something to bear in mind

It also doesn't stack as high as the other chairs - 12 high on a transport dolly
