About the client

Sherborne International is England's original international study centre.  Although owned by Sherborne School, the School is a separate school, accredited as a member of the Independent Schools Council, by the Independent Schools Association. It is for boys and girls aged between 11 and 17. The British Council has accredited the quality of the English language element of all its courses.

The decision making process

Chart Area Seating were delighted to be involved with Sherborne International from an early stage and worked closely with the school's Estates team and Bursary Department to assist the decision making process. We visited the school with several models to allow the team to fully assess the options for comfort and usability.

Key factors

The Greenfield Hall is an amazing addition to the school's Dorset campus designed as a multi-purpose space which will accomodate activites as diverse as examinations and concerts, presentations and prize-givings, sports and art exhibitions. The school required a chair which would support this range of activities and facilitate fast-setting out and clearance of the space, quick and convenient linking, space-efficient storage and a high level of comfort.

The school selected the CAS_CAS_CURV chair for its comfort, quick-use floor linking device and ability to stack 32 high on a transport dolly.

To ensure the school made maximium use of the space available in the new hall Chart Area Seating were pleased to provide free-of-charge space-planning service and having proven the hall could accomodate 237 chairs the school proceeded with an instruction for this quantity of chairs together with 8 transport dollies. The additional procurement of the transport dollies ensures the chairs can be stored safely and with excellent space-efficiency maximising the flexibility of this multi-purpose space. It also provides great assistance to the school's busy staff when setting-out the chairs enabling them to be wheeled into position minimising the carry distance.

OK, so what's the downside...?

The CAS_CAS_CARV chair doesn't stack quite as high as the CAS_CAS_CURV so if storage space is limited the CAS_CAS_CURV might give you the space efficient storage you need

Also, the joint welds are not quite as elegant as on the CAS_CAS_CURV - this is a small detail that you might not even notice but we always want to tell you what to look out for!

OK, so what's the downside...?

Stacking ability is reduced significantly if the chair is specified with upholstered seat and back pads, dropping to 15 high on a transport dolly

Some clients have fed back that they felt the chair really benefited from the upholstered pad so if you anticipate the chair being used for extended periods maybe consider this option to ensure the comfort level is as high as you need

The linking method only allows setting-out in one direction so you can only create and seperate a row from one side - not a biggy but something to bear in mind
