Thank you for visiting my site! At katekennedy.co.uk you can learn more about my music, my music teaching and the kind of musicians who inspire me to become a better musician!
From sitting on top of our garden wall aged 10 trying to get a sound out of a hired trombone to studying jazz at the New Zealand School of Music I have always felt a love for making music and that developed into a passion for sharing my knowledge with others.
My first formal contact with music came through piano lessons taught by the wonderful Mrs Browning. Mrs Browning’s patience and enthusiasm made my weekly piano lessons the highlight of my week – I was never intimidated and never bored! It is these qualities that I really try to bring to my own teaching.
R.I.P Mrs P. Browning and thank you for instilling the love of music and the natural world in me.
After discovering Jazz and achieving the Jazz Course while living in New Zealand I knew that becoming a better Jazz musician is my life’s work.
Alongside regular gigs with a jazz septet and a saxophone quartet and other collaborations and sessions, teaching is one of my favourite musical things to do. I have helped people taking their very first steps into saxophone playing as well as giving more experienced players some pointers as they progress through their grades.
Whatever your goals with the saxophone I’m here to help!
If you or one of your children has been thinking of taking up the saxophone for a while but have been waiting to find a friendly, enthusiastic and very patient teacher get in touch now! I guarantee we’ll have some fun, make some noise and learn about some jazz greats!
There are only 2 essentials I insist on
1. You must have access to a saxophone both for when we play together and to allow you to practise in between our lessons
2. You must be enthusiastic to learn and have fun!
I have a full up to date DBS certificate - available on request.
