"Playing live, for forty-five!"

After more than ten years of teaching saxophone to children and adults I have decided that 45 minutes is the optimum lesson time and therefore structure my lessons around this timeframe.

Forty-five minutes seems to be a less daunting prospect for students and their attention levels remain higher throughout the lesson - this means we are able to make optimum use off all the time available.

My overarching philosophy breaks saxophone teaching down to focus on three key learning areas:  technique, tone and timing.

Listening is also crucial to musical learning and this is why I use modern technology such as an MP3 player and great quality speakers during lessons.

Together we can listen to some of the greatest exponents of jazz and popular musicianship and break down what made their sounds so distinctive and then learn these techniques!
